A snapshot of how you feel across 8 key areas of life
The 8 Dimensions of Wellness model was created by Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute, in 1976. It’s designed to help you reflect on your overall wellbeing by looking beyond just physical health — bringing awareness to emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, environmental, financial, occupational, and physical wellness.
This tool helps you:
- get a clear picture of where your energy is going
- identify which areas feel depleted or neglected
- see what “nourishment” looks like in each area for you personally
- begin setting gentle, values-aligned intentions
How to use it:
- Review the examples of what “nourished” and “depleted” might look like in each area.
- Using the wheel, rate your satisfaction in each area on a scale of 1–10 (1 = running on empty, 10 = deeply fulfilled).
- Shade or mark your scores to visualize balance and areas for growth.
- Reflect on what one small shift might bring more attention or energy to your lowest areas.
The Wellbeing Wheel is one of many tangible tools that I included in my Recalibrate Workbook: A 5-Week Journey back to your center. If you found this exercise helpful, the full Recalibrate Workbook expands on this with 5 guided chapters covering:
- core values and aligned decision-making
- identity and mindset rewiring
- self-compassion and emotional regulation
- intention setting and sustainable change
